Avro Industries, the St Ives-based independent thermoformed packaging group, has acquired the West Yorkshire thermoforming company, RR Foodbox, for an undisclosed fee as part of the company’s continued effort to expand its food service operation.
Driven forward through its food industry subsidiaries, Anson Packaging and Anson Food Service, Avro is growing its UK work and pushing forward development of its business across Europe, which currently accounts for a small percentage of the firm’s turnover. Anson Packaging is also investing in the development of its Sutton facility, which it aims to make the company’s flagship site in Cambridgeshire. Anson also has a presence in Haddenham and Livingston, Scotland. The combined turnover of the companies within the Avro Industries portfolio following the RR Foodbox acquisition stands at around £40m, an increase of over £8 million on the year ended April 2007, while its total employee number goes beyond 400. Foodbox will continue to run as an independent, limited company. The firm’s managing director, Richard Stott, said the transaction would provide Foodbox with the opportunity to drive the company in the next phase of its development. Mark du Jardin, CEO of Avro Industries, added: “This is a very positive move for both Avro Industries and RR Foodbox. This latest acquisition provides us with the potential to develop our product offering in the food service segment including card sandwich wedges.”
