The Technology Partnership has developed nanoDAB(tm), the world’s first Bluetooth headset accessory with built-in DAB digital radio.
nanoDAB is being manufactured under licence by Refined Industry and will be available worldwide from September. TTP has been previewing the technology at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The Melbourn Science Park company has also been working with digital radio broadcasters around the world to define new visual, interactive and download services for nanoDABTM. These new digital broadcast services will enable mobile phone users with the nanoDAB accessory to listen to digital radio and to view, navigate and store visual content, such as images, slides, music tracks and podcasts that are broadcast in association with radio stations. Also in Barcelona, Cambridge company Antenova, the integrated antenna and RF solutions specialist, paraded the world’s first quad-band cellular RADIONOVA® RF antenna module. These modules incorporate Antenova’s patented quad-band HDA® (High Dielectric Antenna) antenna, RF front end module, matching circuitry and power amplifiers in a single easy to integrate module. CEO Greg McCray said: “This is a significant milestone. Cellular RADIONOVA will provide designers and manufactures the same convenience, flexibility, shorter time to market and cost benefits of our hugely successful GPS RADIONOVA RF Antenna Modules.” Fellow Cambridge company, Bango, chose the expo to launch Bango Analytics – a new product that delivers mobile-focused web stats essential to understanding how people interact with mobile websites and which marketing campaigns are most effective. Bango Analytics helps mobile site owners engage with their audience more effectively by providing information about who their visitors are, where they come from and what they do. Gartner (IT) forecasts $11 billion in global revenue from mobile advertising by 2011, up from less than $1bn a year in 2007. But it’s a widely held view within advertising agencies that the inability to measure the effectiveness of mobile marketing is holding back investment. Bango says that Analytics solves this problem by providing hard data, free from any vendor allegiance, of campaign results across different search marketing and advertising channels. Bango Analytics operates as a hosted service, allowing mobile website owners anywhere in the world to connect their sites to the Analytics service in minutes and use it free of charge. Bango profiles millions of users browsing the mobile web across hundreds of networks worldwide. Using its unique identification technology, Bango Analytics records and presents detailed information on the overall patterns of traffic visiting a mobile site, right down to the behaviour of individual users without revealing any personal data. Melbourn Science Park company ip.access – market leader in picocell and femtocell infrastructure solutions – and Mavenir Systems, an innovator in service delivery network technology, have formed a partnership to deliver new ‘femtozone’ services for mobile phones. Beyond improving mobile voice and data quality in homes and offering attractive tariff packages, femtocells hold the promise of enabling brand new services on mobile phones in the home environment and extending fixed mobile convergence (FMC) capabilities. Operators will now be able to deliver the innovative applications desired by consumers, with dynamic selection across mobile, IMS or Web 2.0 service domains. Typical examples would include parents being able to receive SMS alerts when family members enter or depart the home; presence information updating automatically on social networking sites; and subscribers having a virtual home number which rings all mobiles, traditional phones or PC clients currently in the femtozone at home.
