Two of the East of England’s most respected and long established accountancy firms have announced plans to merge.
Whitmarsh Sterland, which has over 50 years experience in providing high quality advice and services to clients across East Anglia, is to merge with Streets Chartered Accountants – a widely respected practice with its origins in Lincolnshire and which, more recently, opened offices in Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire and celebrated its centenary. The merger has come about through the joint vision of the firm’s respective partners centring on the growth prospects and opportunities for the new, enlarged firm. The approach builds on Whitmarsh Sterland’s strength as one of the largest independent accountancy practices based in Cambridge, along with other offices in St Neots and Newmarket. The merger will take affect from March 1 with the firm adopting the new name in Cambridge, St Neots and Newmarket of Streets Whitmarsh Sterland LLP. A key focus for the merger is the fact that both firms have similar client bases. Their principal clients are owner managed businesses, larger commercial concerns, professionals and high net worth individuals. This, along with the similarities in service provision, underpins the mutual desire to maintain a focus on the provision of a client-centred delivery with personal contact and proactive advice. It is also recognised that the merger will provide clients with enhanced service provision given the increased breadth and depth of the combined firm’s financial services operation, the expansion of dedicated tax expertise and the formalisation of a corporate finance team. Following the merger, Streets Whitmarsh Sterland, with employees from Streets’ other offices in London, Peterborough, Lincoln, Grantham, Hull and Retford, will have approaching 200 staff and 21 partners. The merger will undoubtedly provide personnel at all levels with increased opportunity for career development and progression, including specialisation both in sector work and technical expertise. The focus for the future will be to build upon the strengths of the combined firm and to firmly establish Streets Whitmarsh Sterland as the pre-eminent mid tier, independent accountancy practice and deservedly a top 30 player in the UK.
