Luton’s GDP has been handed a huge boost as a major travel firm prepares to switch hundreds of jobs to the town from its current base in Sussex.
As many as 650 workers with German-owned TUI Travel in Crawley have been told they must move to Luton or risk losing their jobs. This follows a review conducted after the multi-million pound merger of the Thomson and First Choice travel brands last year. It is axeing its Crawley HQ next year in a bid to streamline its operations and make £150 million in savings. The staff must move to Thomson’s offices in Bedfordshire or find jobs elsewhere.
