![]() Sarantel has developed an antenna 60 per cent smaller than the the GeoHelix-P2 (pictured) The Wellingborough-based manufacturer of filtering antennas for mobile and wireless devices said that it expects the new prototype, the 3rd generation of GPS antennas developed by the firm, to be embedded into a wide variety of lightweight, portable mobile devices. "This prototype product is a dramatic step forward in technology and is a compelling solution for multiple applications, where consumers look to have GPS capabilities in a broader range of mobile devices," said CEO, David Wither. At just 12mm long and 7.5mm in diameter, the tiny new model requires 60 per cent less space than the previous generation, while maintaining comparable performance. The company said that that this development, coupled with an encouraging customer pipeline puts it in a strong position for strong growth in its core GPS business, a sentiment shared by the market, reflected by the 30 per cent boost in share value. Sarantel said that it has continued to reduce its cost base and the monthly amount of cash required as the order book builds, with cash balances standing at approximately £1.4m at the end of January, of which £0.6m was held to secure leasing liabilities. It added that it was pursuing a range of financing options. "We are very excited by the developments in our GPS business and with the range of customers who are now evaluating the Sarantel antenna solutions," Wither continued. Sarantel claims that its ceramic filtering antennas offer improved performance over existing antenna designs, resulting in a clearer signal, better range and a 90 per cent reduction in the amount of signal radiation absorbed by the body. Because of their smaller size and higher capabilities, they enable manufacturers to incorporate technologies such as GPS, Wi-Fi, WiMax, 3G, GPRS, Satellite Radio and Bluetooth. Shares in AIM-listed Sarantel have shot up by almost 32 per cent, growing by 2p to 7.9p.
