Acteon will take on 350 Fluke Engenharia workers such as the two welders displaying the Brazilian firm’s anchoring and mooring expertise
Norfolk-based Acteon has increased its global headcount by a full third following its acquisition of a majority stake in Brazilian mooring and anchoring equipment specialist Fluke Engenharia Ltda.

The offshore engineering specialist now has 1,400 personnel worldwide with a combined revenue for the group of £250 million proforma for 2008.

Acteon’s chief executive, Richard Higham, says the firm has a particularly important position in the Brazilian deepwater market having established a strong track record with the Brazilian state-run oil company, Petrobras.

“Not only will the deal increase our geographical footprint, it will also expand our global mooring offering as we gain access to Fluke’s high-tech engineering expertise and facilities,” said Higham.

Acteon has taken an 80 per cent stake in Fluke, which employs 350 people between its office in Rio de Janeiro and 860,000 sq ft fabrication, maintenance and inspection facility in Macaé, for an undisclosed amount. The company has also commenced construction of a second yard in the up-and-coming service base of Serra, Espírito Santo state.

The deal increases Acteon’s geographical presence in the key deepwater Brazilian market and adds extensive capabilities to its mooring systems services, joining its two other minor operations in Brazil, 2H Offshore Brasil and InterMoor do Brasil.

Fluke’s comprehensive portfolio of anchors and accessories for offshore mooring as well as its onshore testing, inspection and repair services for anchoring and rigging products, enhance the products and services offered by other Acteon companies, most notably mooring specialist InterMoor.

Antonio Manuel Ferreira dos Santos Filho will continue as general director of Fluke along with the existing management team and will report to Bernhard Bruggaier, who is vice president of Acteon’s products and services companies.

Acteon is a portfolio company of First Reserve, the world’s leading private equity firm specialising in the energy industry. It provides the international offshore oil industry with specialised engineering services focused on linking subsea services.
