![]() Sarantel's tiny antenna designs are winning business The Wellingborough-based company said that Iridium would fund the antenna's development as part of the deal, financial details of which were not disclosed, and which would see Sarantel's technology used for the first time to provide two-way mobile communication. It said that the contract was won after a very rigorous selection process against well established competitors, and that the EoE firm won through due to its ability to offer higher performance in a smaller package. Sarantel added that the deal represented a positive step for the firm, which has experienced some considerable financial troubles of late. "This is the first time Sarantel's antenna technology will be used on a mobile phone to provide two-way communication and represents a major step forward for the company's diversification strategy," said CEO, David Wither. "We look forward to working with Iridium on their next generation handset which promises to set a new standard for satellite phone industry." Shares in the firm have seen a ten per cent boost following the news, growing by 0.5p to 5.5p.
