After a sorry start to 2008, shares in CSR look to have achieved some upward momentum, gaining 3.8 per cent. The gains appear to be a delayed reaction to yesterday's bullish announcement about the shipping of CSR's one billionth chip. The Cambridge company's shares were up 12.75 to 347.5, having opened the year at around the £6 mark. Elsewhere in the sector, Wolfson gained over six per cent to reach 123.25p. Joep van Beurden, CEO of CSR said: "This is a huge milestone for us and not only highlights the volume that CSR is delivering but also confirms our position and dominance as the leading Bluetooth provider. "And this only the beginning, Bluetooth is at the heart of connectivity in mobile phones, one of the largest areas of growth for semiconductors over the coming years. Our leading position allows us to ship many more, highly differentiated connectivity products." CSR said its BlueCore chip is to be found in mobile phones from every single tier one mobile handset maker and name dropped Apple, Dell, NEC, Panasonic, Sony, TomTom and Toshiba as major customers. CSR’s Bluetooth silicon is designed-in around 60% of all Bluetooth qualified products "This truly is a remarkable milestone for CSR and for the Bluetooth industry overall," said Michael Foley, executive director of the Bluetooth special interest group. "Reaching the billionth-chip mark illustrates the popularity of CSR’s Bluetooth technologies amongst manufacturers across a wide range of sectors."
