Cambridge based Linguamatics has extended its collaboration with Pfizer in a deal of undisclosed value. Linguamatics, which specialises in natural language processing (NLP) for the life science market, announced that Pfizer - the world's largest research-based biomedical and pharmaceutical company - will now use the I2E knowledge discovery platform for text mining across its R&D organization. I2E combines search and text mining to allow users to mine large collections of documents, extracting relevant facts, relationships and quantitative data from content such as scientific papers, news feeds, patents, or internal reports. According to the announcement, Pfizer will use I2E to support decision-making. "High performance text mining is strategically important for any global pharma company, and especially a market leader like Pfizer," said Giles Day, Senior Director of R&D Informatics, Pfizer. "The use of I2E supports our DKTP (Deep Knowledge of Targets and Pathways) strategy to find novel relationships between diseases and targets for rapid identification of therapeutically relevant targets." In 2006, Pfizer earned $48.4 bn in revenues.
