NextGen Sciences is in talks with a number of companies about the possibility of selling at least one of its three UK divisions following a strategic review that will see the company leave the UK for the US by the end of the year.

The move across the Atlantic is part of a company restructure that will see the Alconbury-headquartered biotech group wind down the UK operations it doesn’t manage to divest, focusing instead on the provision of biomarker services from its Ann Arbor, Michigan, facility.

All of NextGen’s resources will be focused on this and exploiting what it calls the pharmaceutical industry’s trend towards outsourcing research in a market it says is set to grow beyond £10.5bn in the next five years.

Though very new, the group says it is already making good progress in this area with its pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers with projects in therapeutic areas such as oncology and Alzheimer’s disease nearing delivery.

NextGen has four divisions, the US based-biomarker services and in the UK ‘gene-to-protein’ automation software, contract services and 2D electrophoresis.
NextGen was established in 2000 by Kevin Auton, who then set up Cellexus Biosystems in 2005.
