Colworth Science Park attracts fourth academic occupier

Colworth Science Park in Bedfordshire

Colworth Science Park in Bedfordshire, a joint venture between integrated property group Goodman and Unilever, is growing its academic community after attracting the University of Nottingham to take office space in its new multi-million innovation hub, The Exchange.

The university says the move provides it with a strategic base in the South East of England at the heart of a leading national cluster and first open innovation campus specialising in food, health and sustainability.

It also enables the university to be close to one of its leading industrial collaborators, Unilever, which has a global research centre based at Colworth.

The office space is within the 35,000 sq ft innovation centre and central amenities hub and will be used as a satellite office for a variety of university staff as well as providing a hot-desk for PhD and other students working with Unilever.

Dr Sally Ann Forsyth, director of UK Science Parks at Goodman said: “We realise the advantages of locating within an environment that actively helps to foster innovation.

“By providing a supportive and nurturing culture at Colworth we help to attract like minded businesses and facilitate interaction and knowledge sharing among the scientific community here.

“We are delighted that the University of Nottingham has joined the line-up of prestigious academic institutions, including Cranfield University and the University of Cambridge’s Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), which are already based here.”

Lucy Davies, senior executive in The University of Nottingham’s business engagement and innovation services, partnerships team added: “Having a presence at Colworth will provide the University with a shop window for the wide range of external engagement activities that we undertake including graduate recruitment, specialist consultancy and research and business engagement services.

“Having a base at this prestigious site alongside one of our partners, Unilever, will offer plenty of opportunities for the University, its students and employees.”

The Exchange is a new complex that provides 21,000 sq ft of dining, conference and meeting space complemented by a 35,000 sq ft Innovation Centre with flexible leasing terms, all located at the heart of Colworth Science Park.

It has enhanced the park by providing modern flexible laboratory and office suites designed to accommodate growing businesses, a café-restaurant, plus modern meeting and conference facilities for up to 200 people. These facilities are open to businesses off site to use in addition to those on the campus.
