Ipswich-based business electricity supplier Haven Power is playing a key role in helping Manchester Airports Group (MAG) reach its environmental targets, having been chosen to supply power from a 100 per cent renewable source to its sites.
The contract to provide electricity to Manchester, East Midlands, Humberside and Bournemouth airports makes MAG one of Haven’s largest customers.Haven was selected thanks to its capability to offer customers power generated from biomass, at no extra cost compared to energy supplied from traditional fuel sources. This option perfectly complemented the group’s commitment to make ground operations carbon neutral.
Haven Power chief executive, Peter Bennell, said: “The majority of businesses are now under increasing pressure to be more environmentally responsible and large companies such as Manchester Airports Group are setting their own goals to contribute towards sustainability targets.
“Taking the option of power from a 100 per cent renewable source, customers benefit from the supply being exempt from Climate Change Levy. It is a very simple but effective way of demonstrating commitment to being more sustainable without compromising the budget.”
As part of Drax Power Limited, Haven has the ability to supply customers with biomass-generated energy. Biomass burnt at Drax delivers significant carbon footprint savings compared to a typical gas-fired generating plant.
This allows Haven to help customers achieve more environmentally responsible energy use yet still at a competitive price.
