Games Eden - E-motional Gaming (1:45PM - 5:30PM)
Join us on 4th June 2008, as we explore the issues around increasing the emotional sensitivity of digital entertainment.
Start date/time
: 13.45hrs, Wednesday 4th June 2008
End date/time
: 17.30hrs, Wednesday 4th June 2008
Venue
: Kaetsu Centre, New Hall, Cambridge

The Games Eden project is a partnership between EEDA, East of England International (EEI), Screen East, Cambridge Wireless, EMMA, TIGA and FDMX.
Digital media is generally criticised for failing to deliver the
depth of emotion provided by film and TV. The means by which Directors
manipulate audience emotional reaction extends from the plot and the
actors and is facilitated by environment, lighting and musical subtlety.
We have three speakers on this fascinating topic:
- Larry Sider from the influential ‘School of Sound’ will talk about how sound can impart emotion.
- Chris Doran, founder of Geomerics, will present the company's advanced
lighting technologies.
- Tameem Antoniades, Chief Designer of ‘Heavenly Sword’, will speak about the emotional sensitivity of digital entertainment:
"There is no reason why we can't turn games into a truly dramatic
medium. We have the technology, we have the artistry. It is going to
happen."
There will be an additional presentation about what game developers can learn from TV and film.

The Safe Use Of Compressed Gases In The Laboratory (9:00AM - 4:00PM)
This workshop is designed to enable Laboratory Managers & Supervisors, Stores Managers and Facilities Managers to effectively identify & control compressed gases safety.
The course provides safety training on 2 different categories of compressed gases supply:
1) Cylinder gases - (Best way to describe this is metal cylinders containing the gas in a compressed gaseous form)
2) Cryogenic gases (This is frequently nitrogen, argon and helium which has been compressed even further so it becomes a very cold liquid e.g. liquid nitrogen is -196 C which is then stored in special containers or dewars)
Training for both gas types gives instruction on current legislation surrounding the gases.

Mobile TV And Multimedia SIG - Show Me The Money. How To Make Money With Mobile TV (10:30AM - 5:30PM)
Join us on 18th June, in London, to investigate the revenues and business models related to mobile TV.
Start date/time
: 18th June 2008. 10.30hrs
End date/time
: 18th June 2008. 17.30hrs
Venue
: The offices of Dorsey and Whitney, London, UK
This SIG is championed by Justin Paul from Alcatel-Lucent, Graham Norgett from CellMetric Ltd. and Tristan Barkley from TTP Group.
We are delighted that our Member, Dorsey and Whitney, have kindly agreed to sponsor this very important event and host the day, at their central London offices.
Mobile TV remains one of the hottest topics in our industry. We are
offered so many technologies and innovations for mobile TV that we are
in danger of being swept along by yet more telecoms technology hype.
At the ‘Show me the money’ event we will explore the revenues and
business models related to mobile TV, including the revenues enabled by
mobile TV in areas such as interactivity, mobile advertising and
user-generated content. We look forward to a lively and informed debate
among delegates.
The event will include top notch industry speakers from the network
operators, broadcasters and content providers, as well as innovators in
the field of creating additional value through mobile TV. The aim will
be to look at the business models for mobile TV and to determine key
focus areas or more importantly gaps in the market.
Because of the importance of the content providers and broadcasters in
this discussion (an industry still largely centred around London) this
event will be held in the centre of London at the offices of Dorsey and
Whitney. Networking opportunities will be built into the day, providing
added value for participants.
Cambridge Wireless are delighted to be working with the SIG
champions, Dorsey and Whitney and key industry speakers, to bring such
an exciting topic to a London venue.
Make a note in your diary and join us on June 18th 2008 for a robust event, with top quality content. Book now to secure your place. The last event had a long waiting list!
Events are free to Cambridge Wireless members. Tickets for non-members are 250.00 plus vat.
Places at the event are limited, and therefore ‘subject to availability’.
