UK’s saucy attack on US market

A real ale relish produced by award-winning Suffolk company, Stokes Sauces, could soon be satisfying the tastebuds of food lovers in the US.

Such has been the success of Stokes Sauces’ collaboration with fellow East Anglian company, St Peter’s Brewery, talks are now under way to export the popular Suffolk Mud Real Ale Chutney across the Atlantic.

Made with St Peter’s Best Bitter, the chutney is one of several relishes produced by Stokes Sauces under its Suffolk Mad brand. The company also has an extensive product range of preserves and savoury sauces.

The chutney has proved such a successful brand since its creation last year and is now the subject of significant export conversations.

Rick Sheepshanks, managing director of Stokes Sauces, said: “We are enormously proud of our collaboration with St Peter’s Brewery – which has given way to the creation of both our real ale chutney and our wholegrain mustard with St Peter’s Brewery Honey Porter.

“The popularity of the chutney in particular has meant that we are now following up consumer demand with some interesting export discussions and could be distributing the product to State-side foodies as early as this summer.”

Stokes Sauce also produces further relishes and chutneys under its Suffolk Mud name, including Suffolk Mud Farmhouse Chutney, Suffolk Mud Green Bean Relish, Suffolk Mud Red Onion Marmalade, Suffolk Mud Tomato Chutney and Suffolk Mud Beetroot Relish.

Launched in 2004 Stokes Sauces now produces more than 100 different lines and its produce is widely stocked in farm shops and independent stores throughout the UK.

Leading supermarkets are now also beginning to stock key lines from the Stokes brand.

Suffolk Mud Farmhouse Chutney with St Peter’s Best Bitter has an RRP of £2.98 and is available in all good Farm Shops and Delis.
