WMS Recruitment Limited has secured a £500,000 medium term loan from Barclays Corporate to facilitate the development of Friday Bridge Camp, which provides living accommodation for migrant workers based in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.

WMS is a specialist recruitment company providing labour for the agriculture, horticulture and food processing industry.

WMS was established by managing director, Wayne Cotterill and operations director, Dave McIntyre as a key supplier of labour to growers of vegetable, plans and flowers in South Lincolnshire and the South of England in the UK.

Covering 12 acres, Friday Bridge Camp is a converted prisoner of war camp which was vacated and changed to a hostel for migrant workers in the late 1940’s.

Since that time, it has provided accommodation for the local working population of migrant workers and now boasts its own bar, cinema and swimming pool in a rural setting in the picturesque South Lincolnshire fens.

The new facilities at the camp will enable the majority of employees to be brought together on one site. This will create efficiencies in transportation and facilitates an available workforce at short notice. Further investment in the buildings and amenities will continue over the coming years.

McIntyre said: “This has been a key strategic purchase which would not have been possible without the help and support of Barclays Corporate. At short notice we approached the bank for assistance and our relationship director and his team have dealt with matters in a very speedy and efficient manner all the way through from our initial enquiry through to the final drawdown of the loan.”

Kevin Peart, relationship director, Barclays Corporate added: “The camp will provide welcomed and much improved living facilities for their staff as well as enabling the company to benefit from logistic and time saving in moving staff between the end user. We look forward to further working with WMS Recruitment as they continue to move their business forward.”
