US giant upgrades UK base

CAPLOCK is an enhanced carbohydrate encapsulation system that can be used for a range of products and extends shelf-life by controlling the particles’ moisture pick up

US industrial giant, International Flavours & Fragrances has invested more than £1 million in a further upgrade of its facility near Cambridge UK.

The globally leading creator of flavours and fragrances for consumer products and packaged goods, IFF has pumped the cash into its facility in Haverhill, Suffolk.

The investment has created a small number of new jobs.

The latest installation of leading-edge encapsulation technology – the CAPLOCK™ system – builds on previous investments in the same technology and now totals approximately $10 million.

Encapsulation technology has long been recognised as the system of choice for delivering flavours in products ranging from instant beverage powders to dry savoury mixes, from confectionery products to baked goods and for all products requiring shelf-life stability over extended periods.

CAPLOCK is an enhanced carbohydrate encapsulation system that can be used for a range of products and extends shelf-life by controlling the particles’ moisture pick up. Encapsulation means that the flavour does not deteriorate.

Matthias Haeni, IFF Regional general manager, Flavours EAME said: “We have exceptional technical knowledge of this advanced delivery system in Haverhill and further building on this existing expertise was a logical progression. The additional production capabilities at the Haverhill site give our customers greater access to a range of flavour delivery solutions.

“The CAPLOCK system, coupled with our creative team’s talent for developing the perfect flavour profile for our customers, is a powerful tool that helps our customers deliver excellent and fresh-tasting flavour to the consumer. The system continues to be of strategic importance in our innovation pipeline and we will therefore continue to invest in it heavily.”

Philip Gardner, IFF Country Manager added: “This is great news for Haverhill and we look forward to providing our customers with the competitive edge in terms of products and flavours.”

IFF in Haverhill employs 260 staff and supplies flavours and fragrances for a wide variety of sectors including fine fragrances, beauty care, detergents and household goods, beverages, confectionery and food products.

With a strategic focus on innovation and R & D, IFF has sales, manufacturing and creative facilities in 33 countries.
