Serial Cambridge technology entrepreneur Mike Lynch and personalised medicines evangelist Darrin Disley brought a sharp commercial focus to the final of the Cambridge University Entrepreneurs (CUE) grand challenge.
Dr Lynch, founder of Autonomy and Invoke Capital, was keynote speaker and Dr Disley, CEO of personalised medicines pioneer Horizon Discovery, again offered his Carpe Diem Life Science Business of the Year Award.
Worth £7.5k, this accolade went to Radial Genomics, whose product is an integrated image collection and analysis software used with fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) gene visualisation.
It aims to offer diagnostic, prognostic and predictive capabilities in the treatment of cancer through a novel, quantitative method of assessing changes in a patient’s genetic material in response to cancer.
Technology and Life Science category winner was OncoLinx with LogSquared runner-up.
OncoLinx is commercialising a propriety class of toxins, azonafides, for use in antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). ADCs are regarded as a new way to treat cancer.
LogSquared lays claim to be the world’s first clinical anesthesia brain monitor that translates a patient’s neurophysiology under sedation into a visual interface for easier and safer drug titration. The enterprise also won CUE’s Angel Prize.
The social entrepreneurship award was claimed by SimPrints with HandsOn runner-up.
SimPrints is developing a rugged, low-cost, portable fingerprint scanner that wirelessly syncs with mobile phones and integrates with existing mHealth applications, empowering health workers to link patients to their records anytime, anywhere.
HandsOn is a social enterprise aiming to facilitate the delivery of low-cost, fully functional 3D-printed prosthetic hands to amputees in developing countries in a sustainable manner.
The Software category award went to Transmission Education winner with MyFit runner-up.
