Barclays has supported Bretts Storage and Bretts Transport Limited with banking facilities to enable the Cambridgeshire company to consolidate its warehousing on one site.
The banking facilities will be used to fund the construction of a new 80,000 sq ft warehouse, office block, car parking and trailer park at the company’s existing head office site at Guyhirn, Wisbech. The further development of the site will enable Bretts to relocate the existing storage facility, currently based in rented premises in Peterborough, across to Guyhirn – providing the opportunity to achieve greater co-ordination with the transport arm of the business which is currently based there.
Bretts Storage specialises in the ambient warehousing of food products, with all stock being palletised, wrapped and labelled before being stored. Using an efficient warehouse management system, which provides full control of batch, quantity and date rotation, the company ensures that it focuses on retaining the flexibility required to meet the ever evolving needs of its customers, giving them an edge over their competitors.
The company, which has a fleet of over 80 vehicles and delivers to destinations right across the UK mainland, was originally founded by Charles Brett in 1912 and has been passed down the generations. Today, the company is run by MD, Simon Brett. He said: “The scale of this development and the opportunities that it presents us with means that it is definitely one of the most significant events in our history.
“The foresight of my father to purchase additional land adjacent to our existing site some years ago, has undoubtedly paid dividends and enabled us to go ahead with this project. We firmly believe that this will help us to continue with our objectives of achieving controlled growth whilst always striving to improve the quality and value of our service.
“We have received great support from Barclays, working alongside us to achieve this.”
Bretts Transport offers a full logistics and warehousing service to a wide range of customers; it specialises in ambient food and food grade packaging deliveries into supermarket RDCs, food service depots, manufacturers and cash & carry outlets.
