Cambridge energy monitoring company – AlertMe – is on a high after clinching a deal with US home improvement giant Lowe’s.

AlertMe has signed a deal to supply its software to US home improvement giant Lowe's. AlertMe was in discussions with a number of potential partners in North America and other territories for the majority of 2011 but has now closed a deal that will see its Smart Home platform and home hub adapted for Lowe's Iris service. Financial details have not yet been disclosed.

Iris, which goes on sale in the second quarter of 2012, will allow customers in North America to monitor and control their energy use remotely using a smartphone or computer.

Lowe's has 1,750 stores, annual revenues worth nearly $50bn, and around 15 million weekly shoppers, making it the world's second-largest home improvement company.

The two companies plan to build on the initial energy and home management platform of thermostats and lighting controls so that users will eventually be able to monitor and control smart appliances, vehicles, and gardens from anywhere in the world.

The deal follows recent partnership agreements AlertMe finalised with Deutsche Telekom in Germany and British Gas in the UK and marks the company's official launch in the US. Chief executive Mary Turner said the deals would help AlertMe draw greater attention to its technology: "The smart home will be the next major consumer technology innovation space and it is just about to become an affordable, mass market proposition for everyone," she said.

"The entrance of a giant retail brand like Lowe's means we are poised to bring the smart home into the mainstream."

Lowe’s, the second largest home improvement company in the world  has 1,725 stores in the United States, Mexico and Canada, nearly $50 billion in annual revenues and 15 million weekly shoppers.

Based on AlertMe’s Smart Home platform and home hub, the partnership will deliver a cloud based home management system for the retailer’s new IrisTM service in North America that will give customers the ability to monitor and control their home from anywhere using their Smartphone or computer. Iris will be introduced in mid-2012 in selected stores and on Lowes.com.

Founded in 2006, AlertMe is a Smart Home technology company providing home energy management and connected home services both directly to consumers and indirectly through partners such as Energy Utilities, Telecommunications companies and Retailers.
