Influential guest list for Awards showcase
The guest list for the Awards presentation dinner at Queens’ College, Cambridge held up a mirror to the international influence of the region’s BioMedTech, hi-tech, industry, property, investment and economic development segments.
Nowhere was this more evident than in BioMedTech with senior representatives of US and Indian pharmaceutical giants, Pfizer and Dr Reddy’s, respectively, in the throng along with the Laboratory of Molecular Biology at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and a delegation from Turku Science Park in Finland – guests of Brabraham Bioscience Technologies’ CEO, Derek Jones.
Economic influencers at the event included Claire Ruskin, acting CEO of Cambridge Network; Jon Bradford (Cambridge Springboard programme director); Will Pope and Deborah Cadman of EEDA; Walter Herriot – Business Weekly’s first chairman – Alan Barrell (chairman of Health Enterprise East), representatives of London Stansted Airport, Keith Brown of East of England Tourism, Suffolk County Councillor, Stephen Frost, Jean Hunter of South Cambs DC, Chris Parkhouse, chairman of the IoD Eastern Region, and Richard Tunnicliffe of the CBI.
The University of Cambridge was handsomely represented in the form of Andy Hopper, head of the Computer Lab and chairman of Private Company of the Year, RealVNC; Shai Vyakarnam (director of the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning), Jack Lang (also head of Interactive Digital Television) and representatives of Judge Business School.
Leading investors attending included Laurence Garrett of Highland Ventures, Struan McDougall of Cambridge Capital Group, Alex van Someren of Amadeus Capital Partners, Jamie Urquhart of Pond Ventures and co founder of ARM and Nigel Pitchford of DFJ Esprit.
Top executives with leading tech companies Autonomy, Cambridge Consultants, Plastic Logic, Ubisense, Philips Research, Bango, Antenova, Cambridge Wireless, Quotient Bioscience, Astex Therapeutics, e2v Technologies, Jagex, Roundpoint, Isis Software and Light Blue Optics were also in attendance.
