Redtail Telematics in Awards drive

Redtail Telematics

The first winner of the Business Weekly Awards  – Pi Research – pioneered telematics for the cockpits of Formula One racing cars. Twenty-five years on, another telematics innovator is driving a bid for success in the competition.

A sister company of globally active technology design consultancy Plextek, Redtail Telematics is a Telematics Service Provider (TSP) for fleet and insurance.

It has entered four categories of the Awards – Engineering Excellence, International Trade, Disruptive Technology and Business of the Year.
Formed in October 2010, Redtail has supplied over 300k tracking and stolen vehicle recovery devices, directly managing over 200k of these in the UK, the European Union, the United States, the Caribbean and Malaysia.

Redtail specialises in supplying high resolution driver behaviour data and detecting and classifying impacts as crashes or otherwise, subsequently visualising the crash in near real time to help the claims room or fleet manager.

Among hundreds of providers worldwide, Redtail is probably unique in designing devices, device management, driver scoring, crash analytics and Apps. Users see reductions in loss ratios of about 25 per cent. The company is saving lives.

Redtail was placed 19th in this year’s Sunday Times Tech Track. Commenting on the Tech Track placing, Redtail Telematics CEO, Dr Colin Smithers, said: “Redtail’s rapid growth is a result of exploiting the potential of sister company Plextek’s (which appeared at number 56 in the 2008 Tech Track table) reputation of designing and supplying a high volume of black boxes for the stolen vehicle recovery market to companies such as TRACKER Network and LoJack.

“Building on that success, Redtail now offers customers a range of solutions ranging from reselling airtime from our partner, EE to building a comprehensive datawarehouse solution optimised for high volumes of mobile device traffic – just two examples of how Redtail have a deep understanding of the market and can thereby deliver the value and solutions that our customers demand.”

Companies in every conceivable business sector across the whole of the East of England are invited to toss their hats into the ring in Business Weekly’s Awards competition. Businesses are judged on the quality of their products and services, the strength of their management and growth strategies and their potential. Judges do no just go on the bottom line, which is much too narrow a guide to future success.

While we judge on performance over the last 12 months, winners are also ambassadors for the competition and its sponsors for the year ahead so sustainability of the business model is paramount.

The Business Weekly Awards are sponsored by Mills & Reeve, AstraZeneca, MedImmune, Barclays, PwC, TTP Group, UK Trade & Investment, University of Cambridge Judge Business School, St John’s Innovation Centre and Bailey Fisher Executive Search.

• Business Weekly’s Awards dinner will be held at Queens’ College, Cambridge on the evening of Wednesday, March 16, 2016. To enter the competition visit www.businessweekly.co.uk/business-awards/enter-awards
