Lord Green visits Cambridge for seminar on USA

The Minister for Trade and Investment, Lord Stephen Green, will be the keynote speaker at an upcoming regional event, ‘Doing business in the USA’ organised by UKTI East, at the Kaetsu Centre, Murray Edwards College, Cambridge, on Tuesday, December 11.

Exports from the East of England to the US are growing and this key market provides a wealth of business opportunities for UK companies. Now is a good time to explore the USA market particularly for hi tech firms. At this key event organised by UKTI East businesses will learn from US experts about key legal and marketing issues they grapple with when doing business or setting up in the US.

A case study company will talk about their US experience, what they learnt, and how they have succeeded in setting up in the States. Lord Green said: “The USA is the world’s largest economy and Britain’s biggest export market. It offers huge potential for local companies but it is important that you carefully do your research in this large and complex nation.

“UK Trade & Investment actively supports UK companies to find new export customers and we welcome approaches from East of England companies. Our support for potential exporters is a key part of the Government’s plan to double Britain’s export receipts by 2015.”

Lunchtime will provide the opportunity for one to one meetings with UKTI sector specialists based in the British Embassies in the USA along with other speakers. The afternoon will enable delegates to explore key issues for selected topics and sectors in more detail in workshop sessions: • Healthcare & Life Sciences • Creative Media (including digital) • Financing your international expansion & getting paid • Setting up a business in the USA • Using Social media to drive business in the USA

Liz Basing, regional director, UKTI East, said: “The US is a key market for companies in many sectors in the East of England. UKTI is holding this event to support regional firms in furthering their global ambition in the US and to help them explore the opportunities available to them in some key sectors with the help of our specialists from the UKTI team in the USA.”
