Castor maker glides with polish into Danish market

Guy Raymond Engineerin

A King’s Lynn company is rolling around the globe with a huge range of castors and components for medical equipment and devices, office furniture and chairs.

Founded in 1948, Guy Raymond Engineering employs 60 and all production is handled at its modern Norfolk factory. The company has a substantial overseas sales operation run by export sales manager, Carlos Parks.

Parks found the Enterprise Europe Network in the East of England invaluable in helping pursue an exciting business opportunity in Denmark. He was introduced by the Network to KS Gruppen, a potential Danish partner.

“We’ve been working with Business Link for many years,” he says.

“It was our Business Link Adviser, Julie Pauley, who first introduced Guy Raymond Engineering to the Enterprise Europe Network. She arranged for Technology Adviser Dave Reynolds to visit our factory to learn more about what we do and to see whether Enterprise Europe Network could help us with overseas partnering opportunities.”

Following an introduction from the Network, Parks flew to Denmark to meet with the CEO of the potential Danish distributor, Claus Jessen of Aalborg-based KS Gruppen, one of the leading suppliers of wheels, castors, ergonomic chairs and materials handling equipment in Denmark. The relationship quickly blossomed.

Parks said: “It soon became clear that both of our companies had the potential to benefit from a distribution arrangement. We would get better access to another European market and KS Gruppen would gain a new range of specialist products. Within months of the initial contact, we signed a 12-month trial distribution agreement.”

Carlos completed a programme of sales training for the KS Gruppen sales team and orders have followed.

Guy Raymond Engineering exports to more than 30 countries and has developed strong links with transport providers to enable fast and reliable international delivery of products. The company also has agents and distributors in some countries.
