Care UK shares rocket after being named preferred bidder for Manchester project

Shares in Colchester health and social care specialist, Care UK, shot up 30.5p to 588p (5.47 per cent) a share after the firm announced it had been appointed preferred bidder by the Department of Health for a Clinical Assessment, Treatment and Support Services (CATSS) project in Manchester.

Services provided by Care UK will include specialist assessment and diagnostic procedures along with a range of minor surgical treatments at three community-based centres within the Greater Manchester area.

Care UK said the five-year contract was “substantial and important” to the firm and was expected to commence towards the end of 2007 with a capital investment of around £12m.
