Administrators seek buyer for stricken agricultural businesses
Difficult trading conditions in the agricultural industry have forced two businesses in the same Cambridgeshire group into administration.
Deloitte administrators Chris Farrington and Matt Cowlishaw have made no redundancies at R J Herbert Group Limited or R J Herbert Engineering Limited and seek a buyer.
R J Herbert Group Ltd is the parent company for R J Herbert Engineering Limited and R J Herbert Systems Limited; this latter company is a separate part of the business providing services to airports including Stansted and remains outside of administration.
R J Herbert Group Limited in administration is a holding company and owns the freehold properties leased to Herbert Engineering and Herbert Systems Limited. The combined turnover of the group for year ended March 31 was around £11.3 million.
R J Herbert Engineering provides handling equipment to farmers and growers, fresh packers and processors. It employs approximately 124 staff at its manufacturing facilities and headquarters in Wisbech.
Chris Farrington at Deloitte said: “Due to difficult market conditions in the agricultural sector, two companies have been placed into administration. We are looking for a buyer for the business and expect to trade R J Herbert Engineering for a short period.
“Their customers are the largest food processing and packaging companies globally. At the moment no redundancies have been announced.”
R J Herbert Systems Limited provides checkpoint security and hold baggage solutions to airports. It will remain outside of administration while the joint administrators of the parent company explore the possibility of a share sale. Herbert Systems has approximately 24 staff and also operates from the site in Wisbech.
Their customers are major international and national airports including Stansted, Changi, Oslo and Dubai International.
