MedTech firm grows headcount and facilities

Team is also planning to increase the size of its general facilities to accommodate new staff and ease demands on lab space

Team Consulting, based at the heart of the Cambridge technology cluster in the UK, has cashed in on its best ever year to open a new respiratory physics laboratory.

The technology design consultancy is looking to recruit a number of new people with immediate effect to exploit the opportunity, and plan to double the size of the company within the next five years.

Team markets itself as the only purely medical-focused design and development company in Cambridge. The new lab is based at its headquarters in nearby Ickleton.

Team has appointed Mark Shepherd, a full-time pharmaceutical scientist to manage the facility. He previously worked as a physical properties scientist in respiratory product development at GSK.

As well as the company’s 25th year, 2011 marked Team’s most successful year financially to date and the company is embarking on a phase of growth that will see it take on further office and laboratory space and more staff as it keeps up with the demands of its client base.

The new laboratory is just a start. Team is also planning to increase the size of its general facilities to accommodate new staff and ease demands on lab space.

Shepherd said: “In recent years Team has worked for six of the world’s top 10 pharma companies and for them it is important to see us making this investment in facilities and quality procedures that match theirs, from the validation of test equipment down to the traceable cGMP laboratory notebooks that we will be using.

“This enables the seamless transfer between our facilities and those of our clients and it gives our engineers and designers a purpose built space to test and analyse early-stage prototypes through to drug products in a dedicated cGMP controlled area.”

The company’s chief commercial officer, Dan Flicos, added: “Our stellar performance in 2011 comes on the back of years spent building a reputation for rigour and creativity, and especially strong relationships with clients, who really buy-in to our approach and culture.”
