Aveillant-Thales radar integration a breeze

Cambridge radar technology has breezed through its latest test. Aveillant’s 3D Holographic Radar™ has been installed at a site on the Kent coast in the UK and was successful in mitigating the potential threat to aircraft from offshore Kentish Flats windfarm.

The system was also integrated with a Thales Star 2000 radar display system at a local airport with the integration process taking just one day.

Aveillant says this demonstration of holographic radar to mitigate an offshore wind farm was the first to show an extended range version of the technology – part of Aveillant’s product roadmap.

The 30 Kent turbines were over eight miles off the coast and the radar successfully removed them from the air traffic control display as well as suppressing all sea clutter.

Gordon Oswald, chief technology officer at Aveillant, said: “Our system is now proven to mitigate successfully over both onshore and offshore wind farms.

“It can be set up rapidly and has now been shown to successfully integrate with both video and plot extracted radars due to its extremely high update rate and 3D capability. It is unlike any other radar solution on the market.”
