First carbon neutral football club
Ipswich Town Football Club has announced that it has reached its target to become the UK’s first carbon neutral football club, triggering a “substantial five figure donation” for its player transfer budget from sponsor E.ON.
Ipswich Town fans have saved 3,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide, with over 3,000 fans making a total of over 14,000 energy efficiency pledges at home on the ‘save your energy for the Blues’ website set up by the club.
According to ITFC, it was season ticket holder, Mel St Pier’s pledge of buying a hybrid car that took the project over the 100 per cent target.
