Northants waste firm more than happy to go to Hull

Hull City Council has approved Northampton-based Waste Recycling Group’s planning application for a new Energy from Waste facility at Salt End, Hull.Hull City Council has approved Northampton-based Waste Recycling Group’s planning application for a new Energy from Waste facility at Salt End, Hull.

WRG’s plans needed the approval of both Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council as the Salt End site sits on the border between the two. East Riding Council gave its consent for the plans in early December 2006.

Robert Asquith, WRG’s estates and planning manager, said: “Salt End will play an essential role in helping Hull and East Riding Councils to abandon their reliance on landfill, to further increase recycling rates and to recover valuable energy from the rubbish that is left over.”

Following the formal grant of planning permission from Hull City Council, WRG will still need to be granted a permit by the Environment Agency to operate the Salt End facility. If this permit is granted, construction is expected to begin later this year.
