EEDA gives backing to Stansted

The East of England Development agency has pledged to back Stansted’s appeal against Uttlesford District Council’s decision to refuse the planning permission to maximise use of the existing runway.

Steve Cox, director general of development at EEDA said: “EEDA still very much supports the growth of Stansted airport.

“The development would have a hugely positive effect on the economy, not only in the Stansted area but also across the whole of the East of England, so we will be lending our support to the appeal process.

“One of the region’s core objectives is to make the most from the development of our airports, so we were extremely disappointed at Uttlesford’s decision.

“In the coming years there will be a severe shortage of runway capacity in the South East, so Stansted’s growth would reap huge economic benefits, making the region competitive and attractive to national and international businesses. Not only this, but it would create many new jobs and improve investment in trade and industry.”
