La Playa helps create new force in specialist insurance market
Global insurance and risk management specialist La Playa has effectively been acquired with the whole team joining as founders of a new startup entity – Partners& – acting as the Cambridge office for the exciting new UK enterprise.
Four national firms have joined forces to create the new advisory business for the insurance marketplace.
La Playa executive director Mark Boon tells Business Weekly: “Having started the business from my spare bedroom 21 years ago, I'm as excited today about this new chapter in our journey as I was then.
“Having been a part of the Cambridge science & technology scene for two decades, it seems quite fitting that we'd follow the same path that many of our clients have – becoming part of something bigger to scale up and enhance our offering. We'll have a new name but we're the same people with the same expertise and ethos.”
The move enables La Playa to scale up its support for the sector, creating a premier new insurance and risk management advisory, with international capability and chartered status.
La Playa has been providing specialist insurance and risk management advice for innovative and creative enterprises in the science and technology, arts and entertainment and media and digital sectors since inception. Clients include Endomag, Plextek, Omobono and Cambridge Arts Theatre.
Boon added: “We’re delighted to be part of the Partners& family. The move gives us more resource and capability to serve clients in the expert advisory way that clients know and love.
“In innovative areas like science, technology and media, getting the right insurance advice really does make a difference to outcomes – and you need someone who will stand shoulder to shoulder with you when the chips are down.
“The experience and ethos in the new enterprise is directly aligned with La Playa’s, and this marks a new phase in our journey. Our aim is simple: to create the best insurance advisory business in the UK.”
As the name suggests, Partners& focuses on the core value of partnership in an advisory firm, with the & representing collaboration and pooled experience.
Later this year, La Playa will rebrand and begin to operate as the new company – a well-resourced, well thought-through business model that keeps clients and people at the centre.
La Playa employs 30 people and is based in Milton Hall (North Cambridge) with offices in London and New York. It employs 30 people.
