An increasingly health conscious British public has driven down revenues and earnings for one of the UK’s leading soft drinks firms, Britvic plc.An increasingly health conscious British public has driven down revenues and earnings for one of the UK’s leading soft drinks firms, Britvic plc.

The Chelmsford company said an unexpected decline in the full sugar carbonate market, driven by acceleration of the consumer trend towards wellbeing, would affect earnings for the full year, which are likely to fall below current market forecasts.

Disappointing figures in the half-year to April 16 showed pre-tax profit had dropped to £9.4 million (2005: £23.9m) on a total branded revenue of £323.5m (£341.5m), down 5.3 per cent.

The share price fell by almost 10 per cent on the warning before recovering to 190.75p, but was still 13.5p down.
