Premier Foods reports in line sales

In a trading statement released ahead of its AGM today, Herts-based Premier Foods has announced in-line sales for the period between January and March, but said that April's sales were impacted by the unusually warm weather.

The food producer said that it had significantly reduced the decline in sales in its Campbell's division since it was acquired in August, and planned a major relaunch for Batchelor's and Oxo in the second half.

Premier said it sees overall sales for the Hovis Bread manufacturer, RHM, also recently acquired by the firm, to be slightly ahead of the previous year.

Campbell's King's Lynn site will close in December as planned, along with Campbell's

Cambourne office and Culinary Brands' head office in Addlestone in April. The firm said that it has put the closure of its Ashford factory on hold, pending a review on the overlap between it and some of the newly acquired RHM sites.

Shares in Premier have seen a healthy gain of almost six per cent, growing 17p to 317p.
