Adnams, the Suffolk coastal brewer and retailer has posted an 11.8 per cent increase in operating profits and recruited Steven Sharp, Marks & Spencer’s executive director for marketing, store design and development as a non-executive director from June 1. Adnams, the Suffolk coastal brewer and retailer has posted an 11.8 per cent increase in operating profits and recruited Steven Sharp, Marks & Spencer’s executive director for marketing, store design and development as a non-executive director from June 1. The company reported turnover of £46m and operating profit of £4.1m against a difficult backdrop: The total market for beer fell by 1.5 per cent last year. Jonathan Adnams, who became chairman last August said: “We continue to trade in tough markets, but we believe that the investment in our brand, brewing infrastructure, and product developments, together with a thorough strategy review in 2006 puts us in a strong position to further grow our businesses and enjoy a sustainable future. “One of the specific areas of growth will be in retail through the roll-out of our Cellar & Kitchen stores. Our experience in Holkham, Norfolk and more recently in Woodbridge, Suffolk tells us that this model is robust and has great potential.” He said Steven Sharp was joining the board “at a time when growth is very much on our agenda.”
