The firm, a subsidiary of Safeway Inc, will initially take on 10 staff and is talking to many UK-leading grocery and drug retailers about housing its multi-gift card fixtures in their stores.

Blackhawk Network’s US fixtures offer shoppers the chance to buy gift cards for over 100 brands from ‘best-in-class’ retailers and is established in more than 60,000 store fronts, reaching over 100 million consumers a month.

It expects to almost double headcount at the 3,000 sq ft Alwalton site near Peterborough over the next year.

Besides its store trade, Blackhawk distributes cards for clients such as Universal Theme Parks, Paramount’s Great America and baseball teams the Oakland A’s, the San Francisco Giants, the Seattle Mariners and the Chicago White Sox.
