Apple of their eye as contact lenses attract New York partner

New York giant Bausch + Lomb has announced a global licensing agreement to market KeraSoft® contact lenses – developed by UltraVision CLPL in Leighton Buzzard – throughout the world.

The financial terms of the deal remain confidential but with Bausch + Lomb now behind KeraSoft both companies expect the lenses will give sight back to literally millions of people around the world.J Keith Lomas, group CEO of UltraVision CLPL, said: “We’re thrilled with this transformational deal. KeraSoft lenses, recognised with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise and Innovation, are a patented combination of the latest technologies in soft and silicone hydrogel materials using geometries from complex mathematics to offer comfortable wear and excellent vision. This patented technology allows for custom-made contact lenses for irregular corneas and keratoconus to fit patients’ exact needs.Patients with irregular corneas can have considerably reduced vision that is not adequately addressed by standard contact lenses. These patients have traditionally been limited to hard or rigid gas permeable lenses, which sometimes resulted in reduced wear time. KeraSoft lenses can increase wearing time for some of these patients.By utilising Bausch + Lomb distribution channels throughout the world, Bausch + Lomb and UltraVision plan to significantly increase the number of patients globally who are able to benefit from customised KeraSoft contact lenses.
