Brewer hot for Pursuit Dynamics technology

A major international brewer is to conduct full-scale trials of Huntingdon based Pursuit Dynamics’ PDX technology with the hope of slicing off around 10 per cent of the energy requirement needed for its entire brewing process.

Pursuit Dynamics has been working on a wort boiling solution for the brewing industry since May 2005 with the support of Brewing Research International (BRI) and the unnamed brewer.

Wort boiling is an energy-intensive part of the brewing process, which BRI estimates typically represents about 30 per cent of a brewery’s total energy consumption.

Pilot scale trials conducted with the brewer over the past 14 months have shown that the PDX technology has consistently delivered substantial energy savings; indications are around 30 per cent in the wort boiling process.

In the event that the scale-up trials are successful, these energy savings would represent approximately 10 per cent of the energy requirement for the entire brewing process.

The trials are scheduled to commence in September 2006 and will last approximately six months. The full scale PDX system comprises eight PDX 47 units in parallel and will operate in a 650-hectolitre (65,000 litres) copper.

Pursuit Dynamics’ PDX sonic fluid processing product is a highly efficient system with a massive range of potential applications in several sectors including waste treatment, pharmaceuticals, personal healthcare, on-line turbine washing and oil and gas.

Company chief executive, John Heathcote, said: “This is an exciting development and, if successful, will result in a further major commercial application of the PDX technology alongside the fire suppression and food and beverage applications.”

• Pursuit Dynamics’ wholly owned distributor, BPT Skerman Ltd, has won a £549,000 contract to supply confectionery manufacturing equipment to a major UK confectionery manufacturer.

Pursuit announced that first payments, totalling £110,000, had already been received, prompting a 4.5 per cent rise in its share price, up 5.25 pence to 122 pence a share.

BPT Skerman was acquired by Pursuit in March 2006 and is a long-established distributor and integrator of capital equipment and systems into the food manufacturing and beverage industries.

Heathcote, said: “This is a significant win for us and, although the order relates to traditional equipment rather than PDX technology, it provides validation of our acquisition of BPT Skerman.”
