The Type 45 anti-air warfare destroyer will provide the backbone of the Navy’s air defence fleet until 2040 and beyond.

RSL’s contract with BAE Systems, prime contractor to the MoD for the Type 45, follows the start of deliveries by RSL last year of the integrated navigation system and bridge shipsets for the first three vessels.

Twelve Type 45s are expected to be built in – all at a cost of several billion pounds.
