Comtec hand-picked to support UK fibre roll-out

Cambridgeshire company Comtec, a power behind many thrones in the communications technology sector, has been chosen as supply chain partner by fast-growing power player Lit Fibre to support a full fibre roll-out across the UK.

Comtec, based near Huntingdon and part of the €1billion ETC Group backed by global investment, has a 40-year track record in supplying telecoms operators.

The company has long-standing relationships with recognised partners and has the scale to invest in UK stock to support a rapid expansion in fibre network activity.

Lit Fibre is committed to bringing its full-fibre broadband service to more than 500,000 homes by 2026; Comtec says Lit Fibre recognised continuity in supply of FTTx materials and supplier risk management as integral to the success of the roll-out.

Lit Fibre is one of the fastest-growing internet service providers (ISPs) building full-fibre 10Gb capable networks in small towns and communities around the UK.

Once installed, residents can choose from three-speed options: 100Mbps, 500Mbps, and 1Gb (1,000Mbps) upload and download speeds. The 1Gb service will enable customers to experience speeds that are 12 times faster than the UK average, the provider says.

Tom Williams, CEO of Lit Fibre, said: “By outsourcing the management of our supply chain to a specialist such as Comtec, which has a track record in managing complex supply chains throughout the world, we’re able to focus on what we do best – building robust networks,  consistent, reliable connections and excellent customer service.”

Founded in 1978 and acquired by ETC Group in 2020, Comtec is one of the UK’s largest value-added distributors of telecoms and IP equipment to both the carrier and enterprise markets.

With offices in the UK, Far East and Middle East, it operates two divisions – a product distribution solution offering the same or next day delivery service to installation contractors and a specialist supply chain management solution for telecoms operators and large systems integrators.

Steve Doddington, Comtec’s director of Telecoms, said: “We’re delighted that Lit Fibre has chosen Comtec as its strategic partner as it continues with its network expansion plans.

“We look forward to providing supply chain efficiencies, competitive pricing and our mainstay – exceptional service – to Lit Fibre to enable the company to build at pace across towns throughout the UK.”
