Going underground: 1Spatial wins £6m government deal

1Spatial, the Cambridge-based spatial data software specialist, has won a £6 million multi-year contract to support the UK Government’s Geospatial Commission to deliver the National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) project, alongside Atkins.

The three-year project gives a new meaning to deeptech and will see the creation of a digital map of the UK’s underground pipes and cables, aiming to revolutionise construction and development across the UK.

1Spatial’s 1Integrate and 1Data Gateway software will be used to gather data from hundreds of different sources and enable it to be automatically checked and corrected if needed. The contract was clinched via competitive tender.

NUAR forms part of the Government’s efforts to build back better and greener and speed up the delivery of housing and infrastructure projects from design to build.

Fast access to this data will save utilities companies and local authorities time and money, and reduce the disruption caused in trying to fix leaks and put in new infrastructure.

This multi-million landmark contract not only emphasises 1Spatial’s ability to deliver on complex projects at scale but also underpins the quality of its world-class technology.

The overall NUAR project is for a three-year period, with an initial commitment for seven months, followed by two option periods over a further 30 months.

1Spatial will be leading the developing of the data transformation and data ingestion platform to allow many hundreds of asset owners to upload and automatically transform their underground asset datasets from their source representation to a target data model.

Claire Milverton, CEO of 1Spatial, said: “We are delighted to win this multi-million landmark contract for 1Spatial. We have been appointed by Atkins to support this major programme and utilise 1Spatial’s patented technologies to provide a platform for uploading and transforming asset data from many providers. The contract highlights our world leading geospatial capabilities and our ability to deliver on complex projects at scale.”
