Brookgate receives planning permission for Cambridge cycle park
Brookgate, the Cambridge-based mixed-use development company, has received planning consent for the UK’s largest cycle park and an adjoining 231 room hotel on the Station Square, part of the CB1 masterplan.
Designed by Oxford Architects and Formation Architects, the 3,000 space cycle park is part of a new improved transport interchange, one of the key benefits being delivered as part of Brookgate’s CB1 masterplan.
The adjoining hotel will be located above the cycle park, together with new retail and restaurant units fronting onto Station Square.
The cycle parking facility will be operated by the train company Greater Anglia under its Cycle Point brand, and will be complemented by a cycle shop with sales and repair facilities and a bike hire facility.
Sven Töpel, Chief Executive of Brookgate, said: “Receiving planning permission for the cycle park and hotel is great news and a takes us a step closer to the delivery a new Station Square and the major improvements to the transport interchange.
“The proposals have been very well received by the local cycling community and will deliver significant public benefits of CB1, supporting our vision of creating an exciting city centre quarter for Cambridge.”
The site is part of the CB1 masterplan which will provide around 1.4 million sq ft of new and refurbished homes, offices, shops and student accommodation built around a radically improved public transport interchange at the heart of the city and new public spaces.
