Water centre underway in Lowestoft

Construction has started at Lowestoft on a new £4m state-of-the-art customer centre, designed by Norwich-based architects Feilden+Mawson

Construction has started at Lowestoft on a new £4m state-of-the-art customer centre, designed by Norwich-based architects Feilden+Mawson.

Due for completion in June 2014, the complex will provide appealing, modern office space for up to 250 staff working for Essex & Suffolk Water, part of Northumbrian Water Ltd.

Philip Bodie, Feilden+Mawson partner in charge of the project, said he intends the flagship building, with its stunning, coloured glass frontage, will lift its surroundings and set a new design standard for the town’s Riverside development.

The building, off Canning Road, has offices separated from a feature pavilion by a glass entrance atrium.

It had been designed to be as flexible as possible, building on Feilden+Mawson’s 13 years of experience creating innovation centres.

Bodie said the Feilden+Mawson team was enjoying working with local construction firm RG Carter and Essex & Suffolk Water. The water company has been based in the town since the early 1990s.
