Staff haul nears £1m after Birketts grows revenue to £84.8m

A fourth successive year of revenue growth and a new record top line enabled law firm Birketts to share almost £1 million with staff.

Birketts, which has major operations across Cambridge and the East of England, boosted revenue 10 per cent to £84.8m (£77.6m) in the year.

The firm’s continued success comes in a year of significant expansion. In April, Birketts announced the completion of its merger with Batchelors, culminating in the opening of the firm’s sixth office – in Sevenoaks – and marking its expanded reach into the South East.

The year also saw a growth in headcount to over 1,000 people for the first time in the firm’s history, as well as the appointment of experienced lateral hires and the promotion of nine lawyers to the Partnership. The firm now has over 100 Partners, 45 of whom are female.

Birketts’ employees have continued to share in the firm’s success. The staff profit share and bonus scheme has resulted in all eligible colleagues receiving a payment equivalent to three per cent of base salary. Including individual performance-based bonus awards, the firm succeeded in sharing just under £1 million with staff.

Chief executive Jonathan Agar said: “Given the uncertain economic environment, challenging recruitment market and the impact of global events this was a very pleasing conclusion to 2022/23. Above all, it rounds off another very busy year and is the result of a huge team effort.

“This result was 10 per cent above the prior year and as we look ahead to another successful year our ambition and energies to help our clients, colleagues and communities remains steadfast.”
