IMAX set for Cambridge screen test as part of £2m facelift
The Light Cinema Cambridge has unveiled the next phase of its £2 million facelift – a new IMAX® cinema and a first for the buzzing city.
Following the introduction of the Green Room bar and cafe, the next phase of the cinema's comprehensive refurbishment is the launch of Cambridge’s first IMAX on July 21 showcasing Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.
Keith Pullinger, Light Cinemas CEO said: “The Light Cinema experience is all about delivering an excellent cinema experience and we are particularly thrilled to have teamed up with IMAX to bring this superb offer to Cambridge.
“The introduction of the IMAX cinema with its own bespoke premium seating will offer a fully immersive big screen cinema experience, enhanced by state-of-the-art sound and vision, including laser-aligned audio placement and hyper lifelike 2D and 3D projection.”
General manager Jon Corbett (pictured) added: “I am delighted that an IMAX cinema is coming this summer – just in time for the new Dunkirk movie and the summer blockbusters!
“We will also be bringing news over the summer of the next phase of the redevelopment of the cinema, which will bring a unique cinema experience to all our auditoria – watch this space!”
IMAX is equally thrilled. Giovanni Dolci, IMAX’s managing director, Europe said: “We are excited to welcome Light Cinemas as our newest partner in the UK and together look forward to continuing to expand on IMAX’s success in the market by delivering audiences the world's most immersive cinematic experience.”
