Cosworth confident of UAV deals

Northampton engine specialist, Cosworth, is optimistic of landing at least three major deals with major defence and airframe contractors in the UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) market, with the first deal expected by the end of October.

Better known for its motorsport engines, Cosworth and its AE1 engine had a major impact at the Farnborough International Air Show, where it exhibited for the first time in its history, generating huge interest.

Now Cosworth is in talks about potential partnerships with 20 tier one suppliers of complete UAV solutions from across Europe and the US.

Cosworth marketing director, Jog Lall, said: “We are in the midst of flight tests with one of them and have had a couple of serious meetings with others.

“We are looking at at least two to three contracts, the first completing within two to three months.”

Over the next 10 years the market for reconnaissance & surveillance UAVs is expected to be worth £6 billion.
