Business Weekly going back to its roots

Business Weekly is going back to its roots after agreeing to take space in St John’s Innovation Centre, Cambridge.

 

The B2B newspaper and digital publisher started life as a St John’s tenant in May 1990 before moving to offices west of Cambridge.

Now with a global readership and a cosmopolitan workforce – many hot-desking or working remotely – the directors felt it was time to get even closer to the heartbeat of the Cambridge, uk tech cluster that it covers so comprehensively.

David Gill, director of the Innovation Centre was thrilled at the news. He said: “We are delighted that Business Weekly is returning to its roots in moving back to the St John’s Innovation Centre. Over its 21-year history, Business Weekly has become firmly established as a-must read for knowing what’s going on around our cluster.

“All businesses thrive on information about their customers and competitors – and not just those on their own doorstep. Business Weekly is now so widely read outside Cambridge that overseas visitors to St John’s often cite articles they’ve read in the online edition as their source of information.

“Now that Business Weekly is moving back in, we look forward to ever more informed dialogue here among tenants and visitors alike.”

Business Weekly chief executive, Tony Quested added: “The region is Britain’s leading exporter; it has world-class wireless, biomed, hi-tech and games clusters and a burgeoning startup culture and community.“It has stayed cocooned from successive recessions in a commercial Shangri-La and is increasingly international.

“Business Weekly has a number of Cambridge-centric ventures in the pipeline  and it makes more sense to be closer to the companies and entrepreneurs we will be partnering and sectors that we will be leveraging in these long-term initiatives.

“When we first moved into the centre as Europe’s first independent regional B2B publication we invented the word ‘disruptive.’ Co-tenants were so excited that the community had its own business newspaper that they poured in at all times of day and night to help in production.

“We promise faithfully that those early ‘noisy neighbours’ days have long gone. In our 21st year, the move represents the dawn of a new era for Cambridge and Business Weekly.”

Will Neale of Savills in Cambridge negotiated the deal.
