Nick Diggle, director of Martin & Co in Cambridge, and regular contributor to Business Weekly, has received a special award from the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA) for his performance in its Residential Lettings & Property Management professional qualification.

Diggle achieved the highest overall mark in the UK, with a perfect score in three of the four lettings exams.

He was presented with the award for Student of the Year by the National Federation of Property Professionals (NFoPP) and ARLA chief executive, Peter Bolton King, at the organisation’s annual presidential dinner at the Savoy, London.

Peter Bolton King, said: “Many congratulations to Nick on his award. This clearly demonstrates his commitment to delivering a quality service in an industry where quality knowledge is absolutely essential.”

ARLA & the National Federation of Property Professionals are committed to raising standards within the letting and property management profession through the provision of accredited, nationally recognised qualifications.

Diggle said: “Property lettings is a complicated business and it’s vital for landlords to know that their agent has proper knowledge and understanding of areas such as the housing act, the landlord and tenant act, and the many other legal, technical and practical aspects of property lettings and management. Legislation is changing all the time in our industry, and that’s why training must always be a continuous process.”

The Technical Award in Residential Lettings and Property Management is regarded as the defacto qualification standard for letting agents in the UK. Achieving the grade forms part of ARLA’s conditions for membership.

Earlier this year, Martin & Co also won the Silver Award for Best Large Lettings Chain in the Letting Agent of the Year Awards 2011 – the largest and longest running awards in the industry.
