Fit-out specialist struts its stuff for a variety of clients
From cutting edge cell technology to leisure business and digital communications, Cambridge fit-out specialist COEL has been parading its versatility for a broad range of clients in recent times.
Mogrify, Wyboston Lakes Resort and Crafted are just three of the businesses to benefit from COEL’s magic touch.
Mogrify®, a life science company transforming the development of cell therapies, has grown rapidly since formation. The company wanted its headquarters at TusPark UK’s Bioinnovation Centre at Cambridge Science Park to have the versatility to accommodate continued growth and provide flexibility within the breakout areas.
COEL had to be innovative and practical with the space. Striking, sliding acoustic panels were installed to enable this open space to be divided into three separate areas when required.
Meeting booths added a more secluded alternative option. Interactive communication was vital for the Mogrify team, so a projector and screen were installed with the screen discreetly positioned flush with the ceiling.
Brand identity also became a key feature in the design and the Mogrify company logo was styled in brushed steel and installed on a feature wall in the main break out area.
Eye catching ambient lighting was installed over the kitchen bar to provide a centrepiece and to create a more informal area where employees could relax.
The Good Plant Company created soft divides within the space with a range of stylish plants to ensure a stress-free working environment. Contemporary and sleek furniture complemented all aspects of this bold and appealing office design.
Mogrify’s chief operating officer Joe Foster was impressed. He said: “COEL was excellent in advising and supporting us on a design brief which required a great deal of flexibility.
“We wanted to create a highly dynamic and collaborative office environment for our team, with communal areas as well as private meeting space, we also needed to have potential to change the space around. The Mogrify team are really enjoying the space in all its capacities.”
Wyboston Lakes Resort
Set in 380 acres of stunning Bedfordshire countryside – less than an hour from London and 40 minutes from Cambridge –Wyboston Lakes is the largest independent business and leisure venue in northern Europe.
COEL was asked to transform its Willows Training Centre, including reception, restaurant and meeting facilities with an innovative redesign. The great outdoors provided an instructive influence on how the interior should be styled. COEL wanted to craft a creative and calm space; designed to encourage visitors to relax and feel at home.
The palette has a pure alpine quality, focusing on natural subdued tones: snowy whites, muted greys with a shot of sky blue and evergreen to bring fresh energy in.
The wooden floors flow throughout the ground floor area whilst patterned grey rugs and carpeting providing a softening to the acoustics as well as a grounding warmth connecting the different spaces.
The contemporary boardroom is a light and modern space which now has the extended capacity for 24 people.
Throughout the design process, carefully selected furniture and pendant lights were sourced to give a soft and homely look and feel.
The Loft was converted into a games room providing an area for those wishing to fully switch off and relax.
Crafted is an Ipswich-based award-winning digital agency. Having relocated to a larger purpose-built HQ, the agency sought out COEL to expand its office space to accommodate an increasing headcount and create a hub that would support flexible working and enhance staff wellbeing.
The workplace needed to reflect the company’s identity and ethos; this is incorporated and seen throughout the space with one of the more prominent design features being a timber slat wall hosting an array of plants around the Crafted logo.
The main office area is light and contemporary and maintains the biophilic theme with botanical displays placed on the herringbone wood flooring and grey carpeting. A choice of breakout areas were created to encourage collaboration and creative inspiration.
These included a bleacher seating corner in the kitchen providing a space saving solution which offered an area for work colleagues to gather with a ceiling-housed retractable screen.
Vibrant yellow and dark grey cushioned panels placed on this raised tier of benches lifted the look of this feature corner. Ambient lighting was introduced to key spaces, creating focal points, and bringing a touch of glamour and sophistication to the surroundings.
Along the hallways modular spot lighting complemented the exposed ceiling rafts and ductwork harnessing an industrial, chic feel. This creative workspace was designed to exude a relaxed vibe which promoted staff wellbeing and also stimulate productivity.
CEO Ian Miller said: “Working with COEL we’ve delivered a new home that can support our team and agency growth for several years to come.
“They matched our vision for the space with a design that has attention to detail and visual appeal so our physical space now reflects the sophistication of Crafted and our services.”
