More global heavyweights pile into Station Road, Cambridge flagship

The flagship Cambridge development at 50/60 Station Road has been completed with three more lettings to big hitting FinTech and genomic research companies.

The final lettings, totalling c.15,000 sq ft, have been agreed with Brewin Dolphin, the private wealth manager, which has taken 5,900 sq ft; Genomics, the genome research specialist, which will occupy 4,200 sq ft; and investment manager Cantab Asset Management, which has let 4,700 sq ft.

The development has been masterminded by Brookgate in partnership with Aviva Investors, the global asset management business of Aviva plc; 50/60 Station Road is designed by award-winning architect, Grimshaw and offers a total of 156,000 sq ft of Grade A office space, making it one of the largest office buildings in Cambridge.

The nine-storey building will house leading businesses in the technology and professional services sectors, including Amazon, Samsung and global law practice Eversheds Sutherland. WeWork will also open across three floors, having entered into a lease and revenue share agreement, its first outside of London within the UK and Ireland.

Having attracted a number of blue chip companies, 50/60 Station Road will support the growth of CB1 as Cambridge’s central business district in addition to the wider local economy. 

The building also houses 5,000 sq ft of retail space bringing new amenities to the area, including F45, a fitness studio offering 45 minute high-intensity, circuit training classes and Tawa Kitchen, which offers a modern, urban approach to authentic Indian cuisine.

Melanie Collett, head of asset management, real estate, for Aviva Investors, said: “Having identified Cambridge as a one of our target office clusters, we have established a high-quality portfolio totalling c. 460,000 sq ft of space across three buildings.

“We selected Cambridge due to its growth as a knowledge centre, especially in relation to the tech sector, and as a hub for leading talent, which has been validated by the strong demand we have witnessed from the global businesses that have signed up to occupy 50/60 Station Road.”

Sven Topel, chief executive at Brookgate, added: “The completion of 50/60 Station Road is a major milestone in the ongoing delivery of the CB1 Estate project to enhance the area around Cambridge Station and provide buildings of a suitable high standard to attract the calibre of employer we are seeing taking space here.”

Additional occupiers at 50/60 Station Road include Centrica Connected Homes, financial consulting firm Charles River Associates and engineering consultancy Peter Brett Associates, which will occupy the third floor.

Costello Medical will take the fourth floor, while the fifth floor will host Eversheds, alongside Cantab Asset Management and Genomics. Amazon will occupy the entire space on the sixth floor, Samsung the seventh, and Brewin Dolphin the eighth floor.
