New logistics park in Bedford to bring 250 jobs potentially

Land for a new logistics park in Bedford has just been acquired which will see an investment of £30 million and the potential for more than 250 jobs.

The 12.12 acre site, located off Hudson Road in Elms Farm Industrial Estate, has been purchased by Northampton based Mulberry Developments. 

It was formerly part of a larger site owned by manufacturing giant 3M and is now set to be cleared and a planning application submitted for up to 250,000 square feet of logistics space.

Mulberry hopes to attract a range of freehold and leasehold industrial and logistics tenants bringing much needed new commercial space to the area, which is a key location for UK transport links and available labour.

Phil Jones, development director at Mulberry Developments, said: “Bedford has perhaps been overlooked previously but it is now growing in popularity with occupiers keen to take advantage of the easy access to major routes via the A1 and M1.”

The site, which is yet to be named, will be marketed by agents M1 Agency, Cushman and Wakefield and Louch Shacklock.

The new jobs will be created once the development is completed. Additional jobs will be provided throughout the construction process. The site is already vacant after 3M consolidated its operations last year. Subject to planning approval, Mulberry hopes to start work during the latter part of 2019.
